A Little About Me

I started doing hair during my very first week of cosmetology school back in 1986—and 40 years later, I’m still doing what I love!

I’ve always enjoyed the creativity of this industry and, even more, the people. There’s something really rewarding about helping someone look their best and feel good about themselves. After all, if you look good, you feel good!

After graduating from cosmetology school with honors, I continued learning through weekly classes and working as a stylist assistant. My mentor was Sassoon-trained, and I gained valuable experience and developed my skills under their guidance.

Over the years, I’ve worked in salons throughout the Twin Cities and western suburbs, taking on different roles and learning along the way. I’ve attended countless classes, seminars, and hair shows, learning from some of the biggest names in the industry. I also spent time as an in-salon educator and class instructor, helping newer stylists develop their own skills. Along the way, I assisted with training videos, worked on photo shoots, and even received an award for excellence in “Way Out” styling at a hair show. That was definitely a fun experience!

In November 2008, I took a big step and started my own business, Hair Design By Tom, LLC. A few years later, in July 2014, I opened my own salon suite, giving me the opportunity to create a more personal experience for my clients.

After all these years, I still enjoy what I do and appreciate the relationships I’ve built along the way. I believe good hair is about more than just a great cut or color. It’s about finding a style that works for you, fits your lifestyle, and makes you feel like yourself.
